Restaurant Brother Yat

Locating Restaurant Brother Yat was not an easy task, especially when both the driver & passenger are women without any helpful gadget eg: GPS & the organizer of the dinner didn't give clear direction of the restaurant >.<

We drove around the industrial area, went in every junction which we thought will led us to our destination, finally we were there! A factory lot with bright lighted signboard hiding among the dark closed factory.

Spacious & airy dining area.

Live seafood tank, freshness of the food proven!

While we busily chatting, the waiter brought us a metal pot then a basket of live prawns was poured into it follow by a glass of BEER. It happened too fast until I couldn't take any photo of it @.@, but we were excited watching the waiter preparing our 1st dish of that night ~ Sauna Prawns !

Fresh prawns sauna-ing in the pot~~

The lid was lifted, we all can smell the aroma of the beer & of course the cooked prawns in eye catching orange-y colour.

T he crustaceans were "bathed" in Shaoxing Wine before put into the hot pot with heated river stone underneath. The natural sweetness of the fresh Tiger Prawns made it tasted tantalizing without any dipping sauce.
Sauna Prawns (RM 80.00 / kg)

Claypot Sea Garoupa (RM 8.00 / 100gm)
Served pipping hot in a claypot. Chunks of sea garoupa simmered in supreme soy sauce with julienned ginger, onions & garlics. This was mediocre for me but the fish was undeniable fresh & fleshy.

Pork Knuckle with Mongolian Sauce (RM 45.00)

The pork knuckle had a lovely crackly skin sheathing tender meat & melt-on-tongue fats. The accompanied Mongolian sauce tasted slightly sweet & peppery went well with the meat too.

The young restaurant owner "dissecting" the pork knuckle for us :)

Served with appetizing homemade pickled cucumber & carrots.

Smoked Village Chicken (RM 26.00 ~ Half, RM 52.00 ~ Whole)

The village chicken was first steamed then smoked with Pu Er Tea. The chicken had firm texture & the tea flavor was nicely infused within.

Hunan Ostrich (RM 16.00 ~ Small)
Ostrich meat stir fried with colourful capsicums & onions with Hunan sauce which was intense in flavor. The only complaints here was the ostrich meat was a bit chewy & tough :P

~ Steamed Frog in Bamboo Basket (RM 40.00 / kg)
I'm a avid fans of frog meat, this definitely make me glee with joy ^_^
The tender frog meat steamed with dried lily flowers, gingers & wood ear fungus, I have a few pieces of them especially the "drumstick" part :P But the size of the frog was slightly smaller that the one I had at Pin Xiang.

~ Braised Pork Belly (RM 26.00)

Pork belly with exquisite layer! s of fat & lean meat drenched in thick gravy. Braised for hours rendering the soft & tender meat.

Homemade Tofu (RM 10.00 ~ Small)

Made from concoction of tofu, fish paste, prawn paste, salted egg & century egg.

~ Kai Lan in Two Styles (RM 13.00 ~ Small)
Vegetables dish to remove the guilty from over-indulging on caloric-laden food :P
The kai lan stem was blanched while the leaves was fried till crispy then topped with chicken floss.

You guys must think we will have sweet potato as our dessert? No no no, you are wrong!! This is not a sweet potato, it's ~ Yacon, imported from China.

Stir Fried Mixed Vegetable with Yacon (RM 12.00 ~ Small)
The texture of the yacon resemble pear, crunchy & sweet. Simply lovely~

Verdict: Food here is unpretentious and basic but quality goodness at its best! The only grouch was this place was way too far for me but if you happen to pop by this area, do give it a try!!!
