Egg Roll Recipe

An Egg roll is composed of meat and shredded vegetables wrapped in a wheat-based wrapper and deep fried until crispy.

This deliciously appetizer is a close relative of the spring roll. Egg rolls can be identified easily based on its size and wrapper. As you will notice after doing this egg roll recipe that the size is larger and the wrapper is thicker. You will also notice that the skin produces bubble-like texture after frying.

There are many ways to make egg rolls. Some recipes ask for ground pork or chicken, while others require sliced pork. There are also different variations of ingredients. For example, some recipes make use of soaked vermicelli noodles and other types of vegetables. Whatever the recipe requires, it is important for you to understand that the success of this dish depends on the texture and the sauce. The texture should be crisp while the sauce must compliment the dish.

Aside from being an appetizer, egg rolls make a good main dish. I personally like to eat them with Yang Chow Fried Rice. As for the dipping sauce, sweet and sour sauce is my number one choice. You may also use duck sauce depending on your preference.

Ristretto Cafe @ Mont Kiara 10

Located in a quieter part of Mont Kiara, Ristretto Cafe wears multiple hats- its a restaurant and a coffee shop. The latter outshines as many has good things to say about their coffee.

Ristrettos interior is cozy, warm and inviting. One can also dine outside and soak up the sun on the al fresco terrace.

Upon placing our orders, the cute and affable barista made our drinks behind the counter.

Cappuccino (RM 5)

Cafe Latte (RM 5)

Flat White (RM 5)

Priced from RM 4.50, these cheap drinks help cushion the blow to our wallet. We all loved how smooth the coffee was and how there was no bitt! er after taste. This was attributable to double ristretto, which forms the base of their coffees, is a sweet lingering combination of nutty aromas and lively acidity.
IMG_4536
The cafe also specialises in Peruvian dishes, and according to the wait staff, the chef hails from the north of Peru. We ordered some dishes to try and Papa a la huancaina persona (RM 18) is actually boiled potatoes and eggs served with a spicy, creamy sauce. It tasted like ordinary potato salad to me, and RM 18 is actually a steep price to pay for such a simple dish.
IMG_4551
Jalea Mixta (RM 35), on the other hand, was actually very good! The crisp and non-greasy mixed fried seafood platter was very addictive.
IMG_4554
With such delicious and huge portions, the pricing is quite reasonable too.
IMG_4561
Arroz con pollo (RM 25), literally chicken rice which is an original Peruvian recipe. We did not enjoy the dish at all, as the fried chicken was dry and hard.

While the Peruvian dishes were disappointing, Ristretto Cafe is a great place to chill out. The coffee is really good and affordable!

The gardens of the abbaye dAutrey

Outside Marsal

Cet endroit est tout simplement incroyable ! (This is just an incredible spot!) I tell my brother Benoit as we put our picnic basket on the black iron table near the pond.

We are standing next to a pond with willow trees, colorful wild flowers, apple and quetsches trees, raspberries and summer vegetables, and many other plants of which I dont know the namebut I know my brother doesall looking healthy and gorgeous. There are cute chairs, benches and tables in different corners of the garden. Lots of comfortable and cozy spots for us to rest and take the time to breathe.

The gardens of the abbaye dAutrey are enchanting.

And maybe I should start with the beginning, and tell you how we happened to picnic in such a magical place.

Picnicking in the gardens of the abbaye dAutrey

My brother is a fantastic gardener. An amazingly skilled one. At the back of his house, he and his wife keep a large garden with more than four hundreds plants I think, and trees, that he looks after the way a caring mother looks after her young children. He is excellent at it and it shows. Everything looks beautiful. Behind the outside kitchen and covered open patio, they even have a Swedish-in style pool and a little further, a narrow stream where frogs like to gather runs through the garden and divides the space into a few adorable sections.

His garden is a real haven of peace that I always feel lucky to enjoy when we visit my home village in France.

One day after we arrive at my parents house, we are enjoying a tasty dinner of black rice cooked like a risotto with roasted vegetables when my brother says: On pour! rait all er pique-niquer dans les jardins de labbaye dAutrey, non ? (Shall we picnic in the gardens of the abbeye dAutrey?)

O a ? (Where is that?) I ask, intrigued. Ive never heard of the name before.

Dans les Vosges. A une heure de route, (In the Vosges area, one hour drive away) he adds.

Je prparerai le pique-nique, (Ill make the picnic) Genevive goes on after him.

Yes!

I cannot refrain from showing how much I love their idea. I know it will be delicious and lovely all the way. Because Benoit constantly surprises me about how much he knows about gardens. Because Genevives food is of the kind I could eat every day, without ever tiring of it.

The Abbey of Autrey with its magnificent gardens are located in a small village in the valley of Mortagne in the Vosges department, at only forty-six miles outside of the city of Nancy.

Founded in 1149 by tienne de Bar, the Bishop of Metz, at the return of the second crusade, the Abbey of Autrey is sold during the French Revolution. It becomes a seminar in 1856.

Taken up by the State in 1905 to be transformed into a hospice, and then a hospital during the first world war in 1914, it becomes a seminar again from 1931 to 1975. In 1911, the church is also classified as a historical monument.

In 1982, the Catholic community of the Beatitudes answers the call of Saint-Di Bishop and comes to occupy the premises. Today the Abbye remains the only one of the kind in the area where a community of monks reside and devote their time to prayers and meditation. They also maintain the gorgeous park and gardens surrounding the church.

The park covers four hectares of beautiful land with a botanical garden that offers over 3,500 species. I dont remember the last time when I feel such enchantment from taking a walk through a garden. Every plant looks like it belongs there. That its been planted in the best spot possible. And that it receives the best care possible.

Everything breathes calm and serenity.

When we arrive shortly after 11 AM, we are the first ones, and I am also thankful for that. Apart from a friendly nun, a young couple, and the nurseryman, we see no one else.

I am delighted to see my brother look so excited.

He walks from one plant to another, from hydrangeas, old roses and rhododendrons more beautiful the ones than the others. He tells us the Latin name of everything he recognizes. His face expresses a look of innocence when he walks by a plant he doesnt know, the way a child expresses curiosity when discovering something new. Its really sweet to watch how his passion shows. Knowing him so well, I know that the first thing he will do once home is to search for the names of the plants he doesnt know.

Everyone of us finds a piece of their favorite things to do. You have to go if you happen to travel nearby.

Lulu, in particular, enjoys the open green space. The cutest playground with greens and farm animals shes seen.

When we walk by raspberries and blackcurrant bushes, she helps us to sneak a few in our mouths. She runs from one corner of the garden to another. Then sits with us under the apple tr! ee. She squeals with delight when she catches sight of the cute chicken and donkeys we discover along the way. She enjoys looking at her reflection in the pond and climbing on rocks and small wooden fences.

Genevive has packed a beautiful picnic for us. Shes baked my chocolate cake and a savory dried tomato cake. Shes prepared a quinoa salad with shrimp, tomatoes, zucchini and herbs from her garden. With it, we eat delicious ham and blueberries and yogurt. We drink Mariage frres green tea.

And we eat a loaf of buckwheat and nut bread.

Comment tu las fait? (How did you make it?) I ask her right after I eat the first bite. Its so good that I want to swallow it quickly to help myself to more.

Oh tu sais, je nai pas trop mesur, (You know, I didnt really measure anything) she answers.

She never does.

Dis-moi juste approximativement, (tell me approximately) I go on. We love to share recipes.

Sarrasin, oeufs et noix. (Buckwheat, eggs, nuts)

My face lights with a thank you smile.

I, too, know exactly what I am going to do when I return.

Bake bread.

I particularly love to slice the bread finely. I like it toasted or not. Eaten at breakfast, with slices of sheep milk cheese. Or spread with soft goat cheese or sun-dried tomato tapenade, served to accompany a drink before lunch or dinner.

Delicious all the way, no matter how you decide to accommodate it.

I found another interesting place for breakfast at the southern part of Seremban town.
After exiting LEKAS highway travelling along Jalan Temiang towards Seremban town and before reaching the junction of Jalan Tun Dr Ismail, Seremban a point quite near the Seremban Big Market.

"Kon Loh" or dry noodle with dark soy sauce - a rare sight of fat beehoon noodle with yellow mee. And topped it with pork minced meat. What an exciting breakfast.Served with a delicious soup with 2 fish balls, 2 minced met ball. a slice of fish cake and a stuffed tau pok with fish paste. I enjoyed it very much.

California

As I am stuck inside being clobbered by a hurricane, I just wonder, why didn't I just stay on the west coast? Sure they have earthquakes but apparently we have them now too. The weather is always the same. You can't really walk anywhere but driving is fun. And Disneyland is an hour away.

This is a red velvet cookie ice cream sandwich with mango sorbet followed by a gingersnap ice cream sandwich with peach ice cream. Probably the best ice cream sandwiches ever. And found at Coast in Santa Monica.

Umami (which is the newly discovered taste bud that is sensitive to meat) burger is a new popular chain throughout the LA area. Their veggie burger was fantastic as were their sweet potato fries, which tastes like cinnamon and powder sugar.

Here is the Ivy where Demi Moore and Bruce Willis hooked up in the bathroom. Where Brad and Jen would get takeout. And where Lindsay Lohan last stoppe! d before she was arrested for the very first time. They make amazing scones for brunch.

Cake Monkey has numerous outlets and are also found in Umami burger. They make these mini cakes in flavors like red velvet and banana, much better than any hostess product.

Here is a shot from Geoffrey's, a Malibu restaurant right on the ocean. Their walls are decorated with celebrity pictures. Woody Allen drew a broken heart.

"Mad scientist" flavors can be found at Scoops, a gelato joint. This is their most popular flavor, brown bread. Which tasted like brown bread but it was cold and creamy. If that makes sense.

Disneyland had these. You know what I am doing this Halloween.

And finally the Danish pastries of Solvang, a Danish community in the middle of California. Random and amazing. There is a fantastic pancake restaurant here as well as many bakeries, scenic mountains, and people dressed in Danish clothing. It was like Epcot.
