Doing the Dish on the Weekend Brunch...
I could see the Dua Residence across the road. To use a Malay phrase, "ludah pun sampai", (even if you spit, the spit will reach the place), ie, very near la, but so near yet so far, coz it took me another 10 minutes to make the U Turn at RSGC. And this on a Saturday morning. Brunch. Tapas brunch. An invite by the gregarious Poh Lin, of the Delicious Group. Stressful, because UMei Teh of CC Food Travel kept watsapping me to find out where I was, as I was a teeny weeny bit late.
"After a culinary holiday to San Sebastien (no less! We plebs only get to go Penang), Chef Steve Allen, E&O's Group Creative Chef, enjoyed the delightful tapas tradition beloved by the Spanish so much, that he had the concept re-enacted in the UK where it became quite popular. Now diners in Kuala Lumpur have the pleasure of sampling Steve's take on this". [Paraphrased press release]
Fresh from the stress of the jam, like that first touch of the masseuse in a spa treatment, I felt all the stress dissipate, as I laid eyes on the brunch spread that lay before....spread, lay, oh my, ...
Smoked Salmon With Scrambled Eggs - Talk about your ultimate comfort food...if you were Scandinavian. Creamy melt in the mouth eggs. Okay, now bear in mind that this is my personal opinion only, and to each his own. This tapas is a buffet tapas, as in you can order as much as you want. So, just like a buffet, one has to be discerning, and not fill oneself up with nasi goreng, and miss out on the wagyu, ..so as we trundle along, I shall indicate which dishes would be high priority when I revisit to have this brunch.
Eggs benedict - yummmehhh, two portions for me please. It does come on a slice of err...turkey bacon, so I would not mind having the eggs sans bacon, coz sorry to say, if it aint oinking, it aint bacon.
Boiled egg, focaccia soldiers, who must have been trained hard in battle. Love eggs with runny yolks, so really, any of these aforementioned eggs would be on my must have list.
Poached egg (this particular one was poached from a rather high paying job in a famous henhouse) with tomato on whole grain bread. Actually, now that I think about it, I do not like the textures of the whites in poached eggs.
Ah, beware the tummy filler....avoid this like the plague, no matter HOW GOOD it tastes. It soaks up liquid like a sponge, and expands in your tummy till you look like Jabba con! stipated .
The lovely Delicious Ingredients and Dish...
Come to Daddy, you beauty.....Savignon Blanc, Malborough, all my favourite words in one label. Drinking before noon, or thereabouts, always gives me a sense of wellbeing.
If you're going to be having an alcoholic bubbly brunch, you might do it Syn-fully.
Acovado and Crab Salad. Two of this please, my good man....larverly. Luscious avocado, with generous portions of crab meat. Peeling crab is a labour of love, so give me more love.
Mediterranean Styled Tapas, with olives, cherry tomatoes, and baby mozarellas..Very the healthy, of course...the type of stuff U Mei Teh and her lanky frame would indulge...
At one point, after ingesting the baby mozarellas, which I had mistaken for feta, the topic of favourite cheeses came up, and U Mei announced that her favourite was Haloumi.
Aren't we quite the epitome of wit...or witlessness...
The stuff disguising as a white pickle is actually Cured Halibut. The green stuff is pickled cucumber.
And rather incongruously, french beans with sambal. Not sure which beanstalk this fell out of the sky from.
Dish Caesar - Lovely fresh and rather humongous prawn, so let's Caesar Day. Carpe Diem.
In the pasta category, there's the sundried tomato linguine with olives and fatter... oops, feta...
Carbonara with ...sigh, beef bacon.... Ooh, but what a great way to have carbonara. I love carbonara, but I could never order one whole portion for myself. The first bite is always thrilling, the second, okay, but by the third bite, I feel like I am going to explode...a bit like some of my ex-dates...
Tomato Risotto with black olive tapenade. Confession, I am not a risotto fan.
Paprika Chicken with sweetcorn and mushrooms. No complaints here, but not somet! hing I 39;d have more than one of.
When the effects of Ketu and Syn kick in....this is what your guests are likely to do.
Pan fried fillet of salmon.
Roasted Red Emperor, lemon grass sauce. Very nice, I love this fish. Two please. Firm, but not fishy, nor tough, and tastes very clean, if you know what I mean. The other fish choice is salt baked cod with red pepper sauce.
Thai Calamari. Also in the shellfish section are clams and mussels with apple and chilli padi.
Grilled Tiger Prawn with a herb and chilli salsa....or you can merengue too...for with dessert, you get (From top left, clockwise, in pic below), Merengue with grilled Strawberries and sorbet, (okay okay, Meringue la duhh), Green guava crumble with caramel ice cream (hats off for the use of local ingredients!), Chocolate mousse and jack fruit, and caramel chocolate delice with lime ice cream.
Now, drum roll, THE DISH WEEKEND TAPAS BRUNCH is available every Sat - Sun, from 12noon - 2.30pm, and prices are RM179++ for unlimited tapas plus FREE FLOW red/white/sparkling wines, Tiger beer and fruit juices, or RM99++ for the dull ones, unlimited tapas and juice, (may you explode on orange juice), while children between 6-12 (Years, not am or pm), are charged RM49++.

French Hi-Tea @ Cosmo Lounge, Hilton KL
A lavish weekend affair...
Hilton KL has recently introduced a luxurious French high tea, featuring a lavish selection of delectable dessert and pastries, savouries as well as a fine selection of Ronnefeldt tea. If you have a sweet tooth, like me, you will LOVE what's on offer here.
Mille feuille
Cosmo Lounge, located at the hotel lobby - well suited for people watching
Indulge in all things nice..
The French Hi-Tea is available every Saturday and Sunday, at the Cosmo Lounge from 2.30pm to 5.30pm. Yup, that's 3 whole hours of indulging in one all the lovely food on display for RM109++ per person. Instead of the 3-tier afternoon tea (which is still available on weekdays here), the food is a la buffet style hence you can help yourself to as many rounds as you like. And note that this is a French hi-tea hence you won't find your noodles or nasi lemak here.
What you will find is a fine selection of sandwiches, canapes, crepes, ice cream (instant ones made by liquid nitrogen!), cakes, pastries and macarons. The quality of the food was really good, I enjoyed everything that I tried BUT if I was to choose my favorite section, it would definitely be the pastries! One round of savouries and I'm on sweets for the next 5 rounds. ;) For full list of items available at the French Hi-Tea, click here.
Canapes - everything beautifully laid out
Smoked salmon and creme fraiche with caviar
Fish Platter with Condiments
More canapes
Other savoury offerings include traditional French favorites such as smoked duck rillette ala crouton, chicken terrine in sage jelly and finger sandwiches made with freshly baked breads.
Sourdough bread with roast beef
Smoked salmon baps
And moving on to my favorites... the sweets! The team of expert patissier chefs led by Executive Chef Benoit Chargy created many delicious and pretty desserts which I loved. My favorites were the mille feuille, apple tart tatin, hazelnut cream eclairs, strawberry fraisier and Paris breast, just to name a few.
Pretty and delicate desserts
Macaron tower with flavours such as pistachio, chocolate and raspberry. Pretty to look at but a little too crunchy for my liking.
Petit fours - love these! The problem is they're a convenient size for popping into your mouth and you just can't seem to stop! :P
Manjari chocolate mousse cake
Strawberry fraisier
Praline Cream Cake - so pretty, noone wanted to take the first piece! Well, I did!
Lemon Butter Cake with Citron Creme
Apple Tart Tatin with edible gold leaf
Paris Breast
Madeleines
Chocolate Fountain - a kid's favorite!
Tiramisu
Freshly baked bread
A great selection of cheese - Brie, St. Paulin, Blue Cheese, Brillat Savarin, and Port Salut
Diners can choose from a selection of savoury and sweet fillings for their crepes, these will be made at a live cooking station. Chef Michael Elfwing made me a delicious wild sauteed mushroom and cheese crepe ;D
Chef Michael Elfwing making Crepe Suzette
Savoury fillings - Ham and cheese / Tomato & mozzarella
Berries - raspberry and blackberries
Hubby's - crepe with tomato mozzarella with pesto sauce
Instant ice-cream - made with liquid nitrogen!
Vanilla ice cream topped on a chocolate fondant
Over 25 types of Ronnefeldt tea is included in the French hi-tea, including signature black teas like Earl Grey, Black Assam, Orange Pekoe and Lapsang, as well as fruit teas, green teas and herbal infus! ions. I tried two fruity teas - the Strawberry & Crisp, as well as Raspberry Royal, both which I liked very much and felt went well with all the sweet pastries. Hubby had the Tarry Lapsang, a tea which he likes for its smoky qualities.
Bollinger champagne is also available, at an additional cost.Special price for Bollinger Rose Champagne RM 465++ per bottle (NP: RM 560++)
Champagne anybody? Yes, please!
Chef Michael Elfwing smiles for the camera!
