Bird's nest Soup (Yan Wo)

Bird's nest soup is a Chinese delicacy and considered to be one of the most expensive animal products consumed by humans.

Bird's nest are made by male swiftlet consisting of interwoven strands of salivary laminae cement shaped like a shallow cup stuck to the walls.

The stopping of the export of bird's nest ( too much nitrates) to China is a bonus for locals because the price has come down to a more affordable level.

This variety is the White nest swiftlet (aerodramus fuciphagus) and was bought from Teluk Intan-a town famous for it's many swiftlet's farms.

First, dip it in water for a while to soften it.
Rub the bird's nest gently to remove some of it's loose feathers
Use a pinching tong to pick up the remaining fine feathers.
Then clean thorough with water.
Double-boil sliced pao sum for about 3 hours
Add in the cleaned bird's nest and cooked for another hour.
Add rock sugar to taste.
Let it cool and it's ready to serve.

A smooth gelatinous textures-soothing to the throat-good for health and full of nutrients
Location: Teluk Intan.

Preparing this dish starts by seasoning the pork and then frying both sides of the slices. After this is where the magic happens. It may not look that appealing visually, but the mixture of onions and other ingredients makes this Pork Chop Recipe amazing.

Since this dish is very flavorful, it is best to eat this with rice. You see, rice has the ability to balance the flavor of the dish. You can have white rice, brown rice, or even wild rice to go with this.

  • City Deck Bar @ Frangipani

Frangipani recently renovated its lower level, launching a lovely-looking City Deck Bar outside its main restaurant to complement its lively lounge upstairs.

The bar is split into two sections: there's a sleek, air-conditioned interior, but we'd recommend the more spacious, shaded terrace, kept cool by ceiling fans.

City Deck Bar's menu is completely its own. Pretend you're in South America & placate your palate with ceviche (RM38++) _ lime-marinated raw shrimp, scallops, baby octopus & black cod, served with pineapple salsa, chilies & green pea puree in a martini glass.

Dreaming of Spain? Close your eyes & make believe you're in Madrid, munching on fluffy churros (RM38++) partnered with caramel-thick chocolate orange dipping sauce.

Devilish Deca! dence: D ouble 'D' French Fries (RM18++), twice-fried (!) in duck fat, accompanied by Frangi-made mayonnaise. More succulent than regular fries, featuring a flavorsome fattiness best savored hot.

Whitebait fritters with chili fish sauce (RM38++). One quibble: Prices here are steep.

Buy 'em by the pitcher: RM75++ for three large glasses of Indian Summer (gin, sweet Italian vermouth, peaches, fresh lemons, apples, tonic water).

A Bad Idea (silver tequila, blueberries, fresh watermelon, lime, mint leaves).

A bit of Changkat bar-hopping for a Saturday night: after Frangi, we returned to The Bier Bar.
Earlier entry on The Bier Bar: March 26, 2012.

The Bier Bar has unveiled its! own men u, separate from its mother outlet, El Cerdo. Expect plenty of porkiness, from knuckles to ribs to fries tossed with sausages. But be sure to secure the complimentary starter: fruit-studded bread with pork pate, well worth the stomach space.

KL's lengthiest sausage? This German Thuringer measures no less than half a meter long, marvelous for masculine appetites.

When in The Bier Bar, drink beer: Asahi, by the tap (Japan).

Cocktail recipes for cachaa, bourbon and whiskey

The classic Manhattan cocktail is made with whiskey, sweet vermouth and bitters. shutterstock.com pic
NEW YORK, April 12 The US and Brazil toasted to their recent trade deal on liquor with glasses of cachaa, bourbon and whiskey.

From now on, bottles of sugar cane liquor or Brazilian rum, will be sold in the US under its proper name, cachaa, while Brazil will likewise recognise bourbon and Tennessee whiskey as official spirits from the US.

Heres a collection of cocktail recipe ideas to fete this new agreement:

    Cachaa

Known as the official cocktail of Brazil, caipirinha is made with limes, raw or regular sugar and cachaa. Check out Epicurious.com for that and other cachaa recipes like the Pearl Button, which calls for lime juice and Lillet, a fortified wine from France. The Amazonia, meanwhile, is made with lime juice, apple juice, sparkling wine and mint leaves.

Drinksmixer.com also offers dozens of cocktail recipes which make creative use of cachaa, beyond caipirinha. Cocktails are made with everything from pineapples, coconut milk, mangos, passion fruit and banana liqueur.

    Bourbon

Popular food blog Seriouseats.com also offers a slew of bourbon cocktail recipes like the Mint Julep, made with fresh mint, sugar and crushed ice and the Boulevardier spiked with Campari and sweet vermouth.

    Whiskey

And Delish.com also offers whiskey cocktail recipes that range from the classics such as the Manhattan, to grapefruit-flavored drinks like The Big Texan.
