Avoid Anemia, Eat Iron Rich Foods

With all the hustle and bustle that each individual has to deal with every single day, we barely find time to stop and take a closer look at our diet. Poor diet often results to deficiency. One typical problem is iron deficiency. Indeed, iron deficiency could result to anemia. How can this be resolved? In most cases, eating iron rich foods can already alleviate this health problem.

The Problem With Anemia

Iron is the key in transporting enough amount of oxygen for tissues within the body. It binds with the molecular oxygen in the lungs and transports this to all other cells. Without enough supply of iron for the body to use up, it would be too difficult to transport oxygen around the body. This results to iron-deficiency anemia.

How serious is this type of anemia? Among the common symptoms of this is the insatiable feeling of being tired and weak because the cells do not have enough oxygen. Those symptoms are usually accompanied by paleness of hands and eyelids too because the hemoglobin in the blood is not oxygenated so it does not have the rich red color.

The Importance of Iron From Food

To be able to avoid this type of anemia, it is important to eat sufficient amount of iron rich foods. These are important since losing iron could occur during typical daily activities like urination, defecation, sweating and menstruation for women. Ideally, an average adult has to consume at least 18 mg of iron daily. This will increase though if iron deficiency anemia has to be resolved or for special cases like bleeding during pregnancy.

If you are changing your diet and incorporating iron rich foods, you should understand that there are two different types of iron. Foods which c! an from animals have heme iron. This type is easily absorbed by the body. On the other hand, vegetables have non-heme iron. These can still be used up by the body but it is not easily absorbed.

The highest level of iron can be obtained from foods like pinto and kidney beans, liver of animals that are organically raised, rice bran, lentils, organic dried peaches, prune juice, black strap molasses and raw beet greens. These iron rich foods have more than 5 mg or iron in every serving.

Average amount of iron can be gained from apricots, dates, lean cut of meat, spinach, chilli and lima beans. These iron rich foods are packed with about 3 to 5 mg of iron per serving.

The list of foods that have impressive amount of iron does not end there yet. You can also indulge in seafood like clams, oyster, mussels and shrimp. Pumpkin seeds, baked potato with skin, sardines and liver from chicken, pork or beef would do great too.

There are available meds and supplements which could provide iron for your body too. These can be effective. However, it is still best to consume iron that is in its rawest form. The iron which you can get from organic and natural food has impressive effects on your body because this is not processed or altered in any way.

Lake Garden - A Park within the City of Kuala Lumpur

A green lung in the heart of Kuala Lumpur covering an area of 91.6 hectares. If you want to walk around the park and see most of the corners then it could bestrenuous. So we packed our folding bikes into a vehicle and set off to Lake garden for a joy ride. After all the "pusing" at the park we were at Muzium Negara. Amazing and what a discovery.Beautiful flowers and plants seen every corner of the park.So nice to be a kid.... ice cream after a short ride.I went over to this newly wed couple and congratulate them.Misai Kucing a.k.a Java tea @ Herbal Garden which known for good anti oxidant content. This is one huge rubber tree in Lake Garden.
I really enjoy this scenic garden of Kuala Lumpur.

Nothing like cycling in a big park....
We visited the Orchid Garden too and there are so many types of orchids.

It was drizzling when we started but that did not damper the spirit of the super keen kids from cycling. Fortunately the drizzle was a short spell and had a good weather for the rest of the evening.

Colourful and interesting tunnel linking to Muzium Negara.Riding round and round seeking new destination.Zu Yi getting close to a friend at the Lake side.He loves the carpet turf and wishes that he could stay longer and sleep.A tree resembling a hugestraw man.A good place for a concert.Welcome to Kuala LumpurAfter the ride at the park I thought it was good enough for the day and time to go back but the kids wanted more so I had to take them to the PoliceMuseum. We could only see the exhibits outside the buildings as it was late and it's closed.

Hotel Review: The Villas at The Banjaran Hotsprings Retreat, Ipoh, Malaysia

Of hotsprings, limestone caves, and lush rainforest..

So, as promised, I spent the last two days resizing, going through (1000 odd photos) and narrowing them down to the best ones for this blogpost. It was actually kind of nice looking back at the photos and seeing what we got up to at The Banjaran Hotsprings Retreat.

Personally, I feel that The Banjaran is a great weekend getaway. It is a 2-hour drive from KL (not too far) into a gorgeous location in Tambun near Ipoh, Perak, filled with beautiful nature, lush rainforest, 260 million year old limestone caves and geothermal hotsprings. I would definitely recommend this place if you're looking for something unique and different from the usual beach destinations. And the villa is absolutely fabulous! (Wait til you see our villa!)

The Banjaran is the first eco-luxury wellness and spa retreat in Malaysia and encourages healthy living. Since we were only staying here for 2D1N, we didn't really get too much into the healthy living part, though we did enjoy soaking in the geothermal hotsprings which is said to be beneficial to health (detoxifyingetc!).

As soon as we arrived, we were greeted by a smiling, young lady who escorted us to the reception area for check-in. We were served a lemongrass drink with a cold towel before being ushered to our Water Villa via an electrical buggy (which is part of their eco practice). You can quite ea! sily get around the whole resort by foot but for hot afternoons, the electrical buggy is possibly the better choice ;P

On our way to our water villa

Guests have a choice of 25 exclusive garden (16 units) or water villas (9 units). We did not get to see the Garden Villa during our stay so I'm not sure how it compares, but you can always look on their website for photos. We were very impressed with the dcor in our water villa, which is Balinese inspired. The villa was very luxurious and I knew I was going to enjoy it very much here already!

Each water villa is equipped with a plush oversized king-size bed, outdoor terrace with a private plunge pool and a sunken jacuzzi which can be filled with geothermal hot spring water. We enjoyed many dips in the sunken jacuzzi!

Was sooo impressed when I walked through the doors and saw how spacious the villa was and the decor was right up my street! I had some quiet time here, while enjoying a cup of TWG chamomile tea and listening to music from the Bose sound system. There is also a 40" LED TV but there is no time for TV here since I would much rather be out taking photos of nature or soaking in the geothermal springs. Oh and they have wireless access throughout the resort!

As part of nature conservation, the villa's roof is constructed using palm leaf thatching, which I feel looks really good and blends in well with the surroundings.

Very comfortable oversized king-size bed. The fan is so cute!

Use of locally made, natural skincare range as well as amenities made from cornstarch material instead of plastic. It's a really green resort.

Jacuzzi in action!! The geothermal hotspring water is piped directly from the source everyday! This is nice if you want privacy, but do not miss out on the real thing! Head out to the geothermal springs (see first photo).

B! tw, that green band around Hubby's wrist is the keycard to our room! You just wear it everywhere, even in water... great idea since you won't need to fumble for it in your handbag or worry about losing it.

Naturally cooled drinking water in a labu sayong - glossy black carafe in the shape of a gourd assists the cooling of water. Minerals in the clay used to produce this is believed to be able to cure ailments such as cough and fever.

A game called Khun Phaen left in the room for us - but we had no time to figure this out!

    Greenery everywhere :)

Hope you enjoyed this review on our Water Villa at The Banjaran. Still have more photos to share from around the resort as well as our other meals in the resort. (I have the photos sorted, so that will be soon!)
