Most expensive foods in the world include US$2,000 piece of pie

The Louis XIII pizza from Italy is topped with lobster, caviar and hand-picked Australian river salt and will set you back US$12,000.
NEW YORK, July 22 Should you ever come into obscene amounts of money and not know how to burn through it, consider buying a US$12,000 (RM36,000) pizza from Italy or a US$2,000 slice of Wagyu beef pie from England and washing it down with a US$1,100 pint of blond, Belgian ale out of a dead squirrel carcass.

From social media food app dishpal comes an infographic detailing some of the most expensive foods in the world, among which are gold-lined, truffle-laced and wine soaked foods like a US$16,000 meat pie sold at the Fence Gate Inn in Lancashire, England.

Filled with 2.7kg of Kobe beef, each slice will set you back US$2,000. What does that princely sum buy you? A meat pie marinated in two bottles of 1982 Chateau Mouton Rothschild, filled with truffles and Matsusake mushrooms, and edible 23-carat gold for garnish.

At New York's Westin hotel at Times Square, chef Frank Tujague created a limited time US$1,000 bagel stuffed with white truffle cream cheese and goji berry-infused Riesling jelly with gold leaves.

And from BrewDog in Scotland comes an US$800 to US$1,100 pint of Belgian ale that comes in a dead, squirrel carcass.

Other astronomically expensive foods on the graphic include a US$12,000 pizza topped with lobster, caviar, eight different cheeses and hand-picked Australian river salt from Italy, and a Samundari Khazana Seafood Curry at US$3,000, ironically released to coincide with the film Slumdog Millionaire. Steam Room @ Mont Kiara

Steaming up 1 Mont Kiara Mall, this eatery serves Chinese food that tastes wholesome and seems healthy. We like!

True to Steam Room's name, steamed recipes pepper the menu, including a bunch of broths like this delicious double steamed soup with pork ribs and yellow cucumber.

Double steamed soup with chicken and herbs in whole coconut. Banish fears of MSG; we suffered no food flavoring-induced thirst whatsoever after this hearty meal.

Steamed egg with salted egg and minced pork. A home-cooked feel is evident here.

Pork ribs with plum sauce. Bony; this might be the one dish we wouldn't recommend.

Steamed glutinous rice with whole abalone, pork, chicken and waxed sausages. Reassuringly free from the greasiness that often plagues "lor mai kai" elsewhere.

Steamed prawn dumplings. Decent dim sum; won't wow anyone, but should satisfy.

Steamed rice with assorted waxed sausages. Good enough? Yep.

Chilled HK kailan with ice and wasabi. The most fiber we've had in one meal in ages.

Steam Room serves no booze, but customers can hop downstairs to the supermarket to purchase some. Corkage is RM30; no wine glasses are available though.

Stir Fried Four Angled Beans With Lotus Root

Stir Fried Four Angled Beans With Lotus Root
My family loves this dish. It is very easy to cook.
You will love this dish if you like to eat crunchy food.

250g Four Angled Beans (wash, drain and slice)
300g Lotus Root (wash, drain, peel the skin and slice)
Some chopped Garlic.
100g Dried Shrimps (soak with water for 5 minutes, wash drain and chop)
3 DriedChilies(soak with water for 5 minutes and halves)

Heat up the wok with some cooking oil.

Saute the garlic and then the dried shrimps until cook.
Make sure your garlic is not burnt.

Pour in the DriedChiliesand stir fry until thechiliesturn into
lighter in colour.

Then pour in the Lotus Root and stir fry further.

Lastly, pour in the Four Angled Beans and stir fry further.

If you noticed your vegetables are a bit dry, pour in 1/2 cup of water
or lesser. Season with salt (remember not to put so much
because your Dried Shrimps is salty).

Yummy :) Yummy

Last few days ago, while having dinner with my two kids,
my daughter asked me how does I feel when all my kids have all
grown up? She asked me this question because in the afternoon,
my husband sms to us saying that he has bought one 2nd hand
car (MyV) for my daughter ! to ease her movement when she is
attendingcollege in a few months time to start her Bachelor of Laws.
I don't feel lonely because both of my kids (son age 21 years old
and daughter age 19 years old) still stick to me like glue :) because
till now, both of them still like to go out shopping with my husband and I,
still like to watchmovie with me and my mother (we have been doing it
since they are young), still go out for supper in the middle of the night
during weekend or holiday, still have breakfast, lunch and dinner together
as familyduring all weekendsand holidays and etc etc.
BUT I know sooner or later they wouldn't stick to me like glue
when they have love in their life or family. I am not scare or unhappy
to thinkabout itbecause it is still a long way ahead.
We'll just be happyas a FAMILY.

Ramadan Bazaar 2012 @ Bandar Tun Hussein Onn, Selangor

The holy month of Ramadan is upon us again and during this time, Ramadan Bazaars are set up in various locations offering buka puasa (breaking of fast) fare. Since moving to KL, we have without fail visited the Ramadan Bazaar at Bandar Tun Hussein Onn in Selangor (next to Carrefour).

The Ramadan Bazaars officially start their business today, and we were more impressed than ever at the quality and vast variety of food on offer there. It is indeed lovely walking around, soaking up the smells and sight of local, traditional Malaysian food.

Deep fried quail... finger licking good!

There are more stalls set up this year, and the crowd on the first day was crazy! Since we were slightly early, we managed to snap photos easily but come 6pm, it was hard to move around the place. The vendors this year are super friendly, all posing for photos for me. My favorite stalls were those with on-site cooking such as ayam percik, ayam golek (those chicken on rotisseries), satay, kuay teow goreng, ikan bakar, murtabak, roti john and chicken wings!

We were also happy to see lemang on sale (just one stall) here this year, finally! I see that most stalls still don't put up a sign with prices, but good job to those who do. Just a rough guide, ayam percik/golek usually costs RM18 each, satay RM0.60 per stick, chicken wings RM1.80 each and kuih-muih is 40sen each.

Anyway, here are the photos I snapped at the Ramadan Bazaar, do visit it if you get a chance - it's a great way of sampling lots of different Malaysian food under one carpark. ;)

Getting ready to hunt for food.. Baby D's first Ramadan Bazaar!
