Shrimp and Vegetable Fried Rice

Shrimp and Vegetable Fried Rice is one of the fried rice recipes that I like mainly because it is a meal in itself (like the delicious yang chow fried rice which I enjoy eating). The next thing that got me interested was that idea that we can play with the ingredients that we want to use. For example, vegetarians can use only vegetables less the shrimps, while adventurous individuals can add other ingredients.

Cooking fried rice is really easy; there is no reason for you to get intimidated. All you need to have is a little faith in yourself (that you can do it), a little patience, and this recipe. You will surely enjoy delicious tasting fried rice in no time. You might also want to refer to our tips in making the best fried rice for additional guidance.

Tsuru-koshi Udon, Takashimaya Food Hall, Singapore

Good Morning from Singapore! Day 2 in Singapore (May 2012)... we woke up to a beautiful view.. nice?

A view of Marina Bay Sands from our hotel room in Swissotel, Singapore

During our last visit, we had English breakfast at Wild Honey, however this time we decided to have a Japanese breakfast. Since we wanted to go shopping at Orchard Road, we hunted for some Japanese food there. Most ramen shops open at 11am on a Sunday (10am and I was hungry!), so we went to Takashimaya Food Hall in the basement 2 level since I remember seeing lots of Japanese eateries the last time we were here.

    Walking to Takashimaya.. sunny day!

The first shop that caught my eye was Tsuru-Koshi Udon :) The menu includes illustration of the udon, prices start from S$6.50 for a kake udon up to S$10 for an ebi tempura udon. Click here for the full menu.

Since we wanted to try other things around here, we shared a bowl of Atutu Tan Tan Udon (S$9), served with Chinese hot sauce. Basically, the "hot sauc! e" is ma po tofu style pork mince... slightly spicy.

In KL, our favorite udon spot is Sanuki Udon in Taman Desa. How did Tsuru-koshi Udon fare against Sanuki? Fortunately, very very well. We enjoyed our Atutu tan tan udon very much - the noodles had a nice bite and smooth. The poached egg was nicely done, and mixed together with the pork mince and scallions, it was flavourful and delicious. A big thumbs up from us.

    Atutu tan tan udon (S$9)

    Happy to see noodles :)

    Lovely sauce.. so flavourful.

Stay tuned for more breakfast blogs from us - we went to another 4 other places after this udon!

Verdict: Delicious udon at an affordable price (don't convert to RM la).

Full set of photos, including menu can be vie! wed here .

Opening times: 10am to 9.30pm daily. Last order at 9pm.

Service: Despite being in a food hall, you place your order at the counter and they bring the noodles to you when ready. Good.

New survey reveals dining habits of Parisians

PARIS, May 24 Travelling to Paris for a gluttonous, food-filled holiday and Michelin meals? Better be prepared to dig deep for la vie en rose, as yet another major survey has confirmed that the city of light will cost a pretty euro.

Planning a trip to Paris? Get ready to spend big bucks, as a new survey reveals that the average meal in Paris costs 62. Picture courtesy of shutterstock.com
According to the latest Zagat survey released this week, the average meal in Paris will set you back about 62 (RM248) almost double the cost of a meal in New York, which averages 33, and just a little less than London, where a restaurant meal will cost around 52. Only Tokyo is more expensive at 84, says Zagat.

The latest Paris restaurant guide by Zagat was written based on the reviews of 714 restaurants in the Paris region by 8,015 diners.

The survey also found that Parisians go to restaurants on average three times a week, more than Londoners (2.4 a week) but less than Tokyo residents (four times/week).

When it comes to celebrity chefs, respondents were evenly divided, with 48 per cent saying they choose restaurants for the star power in the kitchen, while 49 per cent said it matters little to them whos at the helm.

As for restaurant pet peeves, 76 per cent of Parisians named bad service as their biggest turn-off, while 17 per cent named excess noise.

Meanwhile, this month online reservations site Hotels.com also came out with a travel barometer it called its Club Sandwich Index which surveyed the most expensive club sandwiches on hotel menus around the world.

Paris topped the list at US$33.10 (RM99.30), followed by Geneva at US$32.65 and Oslo at US$30.50.

Meanwhile, though Parisian restaurants may get a bad rap for their service, here are the top five eateries for providing impeccable service, according to Zagat editors and users:

    2. Epicure

    3. Le Meurice

Menya Musashi Ramen 1 Utama Top In My List Of Japan Pork Ramen

There are a couple of food frenzy trend lately started off with Bubble Milk Tea, then the Kaw Kaw Burger Bakar kick in and the latest is the Japanese Pork Ramen! Earlier I did mention I found my best ramen in town which is Yamagoya Ramen located at Publika Solaris Dutamas. Without a doubt that is a good ramen chain straight from Shinjuku, Japan. Now they have a big rival which topped my Best Ramen shop.

Musashi Ramen with Aka Oil (Home Made Musashi Chili Oil) RM27

Located at the new old wing of 1 Utama (previously is the place where TGV Cinema located) not it has turn into EAT Paradise where all the Japanese and Korean Food centralize. You can expect some top class foods here where its authenticity is guaranteed. Menya Musashi Ramen is located at the back. So you have to walk in to EAT Paradise and turn to your right, you can see them at the corner.

Chashu Men That come with 3 big slabs of thick char siu RM30 (Shiro) with the onion flavored oil.

The bowl of ramen come with a thick broth that boil for a long time. The soup are really tasty and we clear till the last drop for every bowl served. You can ask for more soup for a charge of RM10. YES! You heard it right! . RM10 j ust for soup. The soup are really KOW KOW! Super flavorful and I dont mind to pack it home and settle with Maggie for supper.

    Aka Chashu Men RM30

This bowl is having the same broth as the Shiro ones. Just that the oil are different. Home made chili oil added. This is my favorite of all. Instead of getting the aji tamago, we get 3 slabs of meat. The one below is the same with 2 slabs of meat and half aji tama.

This one would be able to satisfy my lunch meal but not satisfy enough. Add one more char siu is just nice.

    Kuro Chashu Men RM30

Special fried shallot mix with garlic oil put in the super tasty soup base to make you have another different experience.

Though everything is so perfect, the noodle I can taste a slight lye water. Still I dont mind on that and we clear the bowls like in 10 minutes.

    Chashu Tsukemen RM31 (Regular)

The dry version of the ramen that come with Char Siu and Bambo Shoots. It come with a bowl of thick soup that are so flavorful and salty. To eat this Tsukemen, you should dip it into the soup and then only put in your mouth. More of like eating Soba. The taste are quite nice but still I love my bowl of piping hot soup ramen.

The char siu is thick and perfect proportion in terms of lean and fats.

    Aji Tama RM2

I like my aji tama to have a runny yolk. Some love it this way but it is still tasty.

    Chashu Gohan RM9

If you find that the ramen is not sufficient to fulfill your apetite, you should try their gohan. It is soooooo good! Very simple yet authentic. Unlike a lot places spoil with fake katsudon. The pork bits are cooked with bean paste and then mix together with lots of spring onions.

    Takana Gohan RM9

Rice with pickled vege. Taste like our Chinese Ham Choi.

    Pot Stickers RM9

Perfect skin but the pork filling not sufficient.

Our round 1 servings. All this are cleared by 4 guys and 2 gals.
