The Marmalade Pantry (Jakarta)

Originally from Singapore, The Marmalade Pantry is a casual restaurant serving various Continental and Asian food. Compared to other eating joints nearby (Kitchenette, Bistro Baron, Bakerzin), it is much less popular even though the quality of the food and the prices are similar.

I think that Jakartans love their restaurants to be cute, charming or amusing, and The Marmalade Pantry has none of that. It is clean and bright, a bit soulless, just like a brand-new apartment in which nobody has lived in yet.

Concerning the food, I've had the opportunity to sample a few of their dishes. It is not delicious nor fine dining, but very decent for continental food in Jakarta. If it was about 30% cheaper, it would be a restaurant I would go to more often. I looked on other Jakarta-based food blogs to see what others had to say, and most reviewers were enthusiastic, especially with their desserts (that I haven't tried).

Here are some pictures of dishes I've had (no prices and no names as I didn't keep the bill... I think the burger was Rp55k++, the salads around Rp50k++, and the Nasi Goreng with King Prawn Rp80k++):
Overall: I think the Marmalade Pantry looks boring and it is probably too expensive, but at least you eat decent food in a relatively quiet environment. Another problem I had was that they have only one CD with ten cheesy songs, and if you stay there for 2 hours it becomes unbearable.

Korea Trip 2011 Nami Island

I really didnt mean to not blog for so long, or not put up a recipe of food. Its just that Ive been rather busy last two weeks in rushing for the opening of a new store by the company I work with. That being said, its open now! and I have a little bit time to breathe before another outlet opens in a couple of months, and also in between that, moving to a new place! rrawwwrrr I hope to be moving in 2 months time and yup there will then be a huge kickass kitchen island to roll with. tee hee hee .

That aside, I swear Im trying my best to put up all the Korea posts. Please bear with me. Im half way there !!

So Nami Island. Now if you have some idea already on how to go to Nami Island from Seoul, here are some pictorial guide on the things you can do there ;) Of course, just one click on google, youll find many more. Be sure to take time to explore the beautiful Nami Island by foot or by a bicycle!

#1 Hello Nami.

#2 Most main walk ways looks like this. There were alot of people on that day, it was really hard to not get a picture without a human anywhere in the picture. But youll have to be there to feel it.

#3 I think this was mint chocolate capsule ice cream. Try the grape too! its nice

#4 Yummy ramen. Even the yolks are runny <3

#5 It was raining on that day, and because the island was kinda big to be walked on foot, we decided to rent some bicycles for all of us. Its MUUUUCCCHHH faster that way. Trust me. Whether its raining or not, GET THE BICYCLE!

#6 Made famous by Winter Sonata.

#7 You can say that apart from the tranquil beauty of the Nami Island, its quite Winter-Sonata-fied. I didnt watch the drama so I couldnt be more bothered. But you know, it has to be one of those been there done that thing to do when it comes to travelling. We had a tough time looking for this statue, fyi, its near the bicycle rental place. Its hidden behind a wooden house/shop

#8 Somewhere near there, theres an area full with stacked rocks. We just thought that, eh, instead of throwing coins into a wishing well, stacking stones will do? Hehehe so yah, HAHAHA

#9 A scene for pirates of the Caribbean? Not. I read that theres suppose to be a mermaid statue here (near the jetty where the ferry stops) But it was no where to be seen on the waters. It has fallen and was hidden at the side behind the bushes. Well, must be the tide.

#10 Oh well then, dont forget to take a group picture that the background is too beautiful to be real that it looks like a wallpaper.

Kamsahamnida.

Bed time ;)

Grill'd @ Rosalie, Brisbane

In Malaysia, if you wanted to eat burgers, there's generally a couple of categories; the small stalls in the most random of streets, the fast food, the cafes and the high end.

In Australia, there is Grill'd. Sitting between fast food and cafe; fast enough to be considered fast food and a nicer ambience similar to the cafes we get here. With prices around AUD10 for a burger and a couple more for chips and a drink, the slight premium over the McDs and Hungry Jacks is well worth it.

Burgers are made to order but there's a well oiled team behind the open kitchen making sure you get your meal within 10 -15 minutes.

What appears to the star though for me at least, is the chips that is seasoned with some herbs, dipped into one of the three dips on offer.

There's something about chips since coming to Australia (I am pretty sure I have talked about this before), never have I been so willing to order chips with a meal (which explains the weight I have piled on), is the potatoes?

Burger wise, you have a pick of beef, chicken or lamb and that night the lamb burger was calling out to me and before I knew it, it was all in the tummy. Juicy patty, fresh lettuce, a yummy sauce to ro! und it a ll up and a nice bun too.

For a franchise concept, I must say I am quite impressed. Just the place for me when we feel too lazy to cook and want a burger without resorting to the unhealthy fast food version.

Verdict: 4 stars out of 5 stars. With Grill'd everywhere in the city and suburbs, you can take your pick but the Rosalie one is awesome, just because I can have gelati down the road after a burger.

Day 3 - Explore Inner Edinburgh

Breakfast at our temporary home @ Edinburgh and all food stuffs were purchased from TESCO the night before.

We visited a church and the Scottish Parliament House at the vicinity of Hollyrood and was surprised that the! Debatin g Chamber is opened to public. I was impressed with thebuilding and thank to the Guide for her lovely introduction of this wonderful Scottish Parliament House.

Lunch with no rice but marshed potato and chips, that is whatyou likely to eat in this land of United Kingdom.

At the edge of Edinburgh city there is this park called Hollyrood Park where the beautiful Salisbury Crags is found. It has a series of green hills and cliff. Such a beautiful scenery at this park.

After all the walking and hiking we took a break for tea at a typical English tea room called Clarindas Tea Room.

This is one of the popular Chinese! restaur ants frequent by the locals at Saigon Chinese Restaurant. Weirdly the name is called Saigon but it serves Chinese food probably it has some kind of Vietnamese connection.

Taking a stroll back to our apartment after our dinner through the many closes found in Edinburgh city. Advocate Close is one of the popular closes.
