Augustdiners Eats: Naughty Nuri, Bali

"Heard you're going to Bali, you MUST try Naughty Nuri, it's gooood and i must make a visit each and every time im in Bali" gushed a friend

And visit we did. Better known for their famous BBQ Ribs, selections of Indonesian fares and their boobilicious Martinis, Naughty Nuri has the party fun vibe thats comfortably noisy, irritably crowdy at times and tables are often shared, then again you cant always please both sides. What they made up for is their brisk and efficient services. So although there is quite some queue by the roadside, after 30 or so minutes wait, we were escorted to our tables and orders immediately filled and food arrived within 15 minutes. Heck we are on Holiday so we can wait.

Yes, Naughty Nuri may be popular for tourist around the world, but it is equally enjoyed by locals. Its Pork Ribs that people flock to in crowds may not be my absolute favourite (I still like Hurricane, Sydney the best!) however the flavours were worth devouring, with its not-too-sweet and sticky special BBQ sauce and falls off the bone meat textures. One slab of ribs each which comes with about 7-8 ribs that may not be good portion for sharing unless you want to order other main courses as well.

Their Indonesian food flairs quite well too, with a very enjoyable sup buntut or oxtail soup, with thick earthy broth and their bebek goreng (crispy fried duck)- an Indonesian specialty though naughty nuri's version was bordering too dry for us.

Whats worth mentioning is their little gimmick for their Martinis, when you order a Classic Martinis, youll get to enjoy a little performances by Naughty Nuris staff, where they chant one, two, three shake shake, shake shake while good spiritedly shaking their butts and booties at the same time. It was for a good laugh, and i see foreigners order again and again just so they canenjoy the dance. It also helps that their Martinis were surpri! singly q uite potent and tasted quite good.

Overall, we were glad we made the trip there, and this will not be our last visit too. Would I recommend? Yes of course. After a good meal in Naughty Nuri, how about heading down to the happening Potato Head Beach Club?

Humble Beginnings Mille Crepe @ Jalan Telawi, Bangsar

I still remember my first slice of mille crepe..my brother had kindlytapau (buy back) a piece for me all the way back from Nadeje in Melaka. It was lusciously creamy, so delicious that I immediately fell in love with it.

Fast forward one year, and we can now get mille crepe in certain cafes in KL too.Prior to this, Humble Beginnings mille crepe were available for order online and they would deliver to your home or you could pick-up in certain locations in KL. I had them on my radar for some time, since some of my friends have commented in the past that their mille crepes were good. So naturally, I was very happy when I found out that they were opening a cafe in Jalan Telawi, Bangsar.

French Vanilla Mille Crepe

The shop is located next to Subway on Jalan Telawi, it is quite small but sufficient space for a cafe. There were about 5-6 types of mille crepe available during our visit plus cheesecakes. Usually I would order the French vanilla flavour at other places, so I thought we should try it here too.

The mille crepe here consists of twenty layers of crepes with combination of fresh cream and v! anilla c ustard. Everything is hand made and hand layered.

We have just had a heavy lunch, so I told Hubby we should share a slice, and if it's good, we can always order another. I had quite high expectations for the mille crepe here, but sadly I found the crepe layers too hard. It wasn't as smooth as we would have liked it to be, usually we could just use the fork and cut a slice effortlessly but struggled to do that here. :( However, the flavour was nice so we finished it anyway.

The guy in the shop also let us sample the mango cheese mille crepe and peanut butter chocolate. In hindsight, we should have tried out their samples first before ordering our slice of cake as the mango cheese one was really good and the texture is exactly how I envisaged the mille crepe to be. We did give our feedback to the guy in the shop, so hopefully the French Vanilla will be good the next time we visit.

I love the mango cheese mille crepe but wasn't crazy about the peanut butter chocolate

Corned Beef Guisado Recipe

Canned meats can be handy especially to busy people. This saves a lot of cooking time it can even be consumed directly from the can without cooking. Of course, we still prefer cooked food even if we have no time to prepare them. Corned Beef Guisado is an example of a canned meat makeover wherein the meat is sauted and cooked with minimal ingredients to make it more appetizing and delicious.

This Corned Beef Recipe is simple, quick, and easy. All you need to have is a can of chunky corned beef (this is my personal preference), onion, potatoes, and seasonings. Once everything is in place, follow the detailed steps below and you will never go wrong.

Im not sure how you like your corned beef cooked, but this recipe is best when eaten with rice because of the extra juice (or sauce) brought about by the beef stock. If you want your corned beef dry, just omit the beef stock; this is ideal for breads such as pandesal.

There you have it a quick and delicious meal that you can enjoy for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and even meryenda (snack).

Try this Corned Beef Guisado Recipe and let me know your thoughts. Happy cooking!

  • Winter Lover & Humble Beginnings

As we learned from "An Affair To Remember," winter must be cold for those with no warm memories. Mercifully, sweet remembrances can be made at Kota Damansara's Winter Lover, which specializes in fascinatingly flavored mille crepes and macarons.

For a treat that tastes like Neapolitan ice cream, these layers of chocolate, vanilla and strawberry illustrate that three flavors might be better than only one.

Winter Lover also offers mille crepes tinged with either Bailey's or rum. The taste of the liquor is obvious though not as powerful as we might prefer. Still, there's no complaining, since each slice costs barely RM10.

Other varieties include French chestnut, Musang durian and Hokkaido milk. Soft and smooth, these are terrific in texture but perhaps slightly too subtle in taste.

Also an attraction here: funky macarons, including cempedak, jaffa, oreo, bandung, corn, yam, banana, salted caramel and cheesy chocolate.

Kids will likely love these, though we'd like 'em better a little less biscuit-like.

Winter Lover also offers numerous types of flower tea and other relatively healthy beverages.

Another mille crepe specialist, Humble Beginnings, recently opened its own cafe in Bangsar after some time supplying cakes to stores and for deliveries.

Fresh is best: four or five varieties might be found at Humble Beginnings, but request the ones that have spent the least time in the chiller, since they'll provide the most luxurious creaminess.

Everyone might have their favorite flavor: Peanut butter with blueberry? Cheese with mango? French vanilla? All worthy of consideration.

Hot latte and iced doppio. Decent, but the mille crepes are the real reason to head here.

Raspberry tea laced with French vanilla. A bit of an acquired taste.

Humble Beginnings sits in a humble half-outlet beside Telawi's Subway. Tricky to spot.
