Thai Food @ Bangkok Wasabe, Kota Damansara

My friends and I were keen on trying out Erawan in Kota Damansara but soon found out the restaurant required us to book most of their dishes a day in advance. Realizing this when we were at the restaurant we decided to eat elsewhere and save Erawan for another week.

A little research via our Phones led us to Bangkok Wasabe which incidentally was just a few minutes walk from Erawan. We were a little confused by the name thinking it was some kind of Thai-Japanese Restaurant but were wrong as we soon found the place serves up Thai Food with an emphasis on Street Fare.

Goong Ob Woon Sen
Goong Ob Woon Sen
Their Goong Ob Woon Sen was the way I liked it. The Mung Bean Noodles had the right amount of sauce and the Prawns were cooked just right. They were actually very generous with the Prawns.

Som-Tam
Som-Tam:
The Papaya Salad was Spicy and Sour the way I liked it. The only thing missing were the Fermented Crabs.

Pandan Chicken
Pandan Chicken
This was also really good. The Pandan Leaf Flavor was imparted well into the Chicken and the Chicken was quite tender.

Moo Larb

Their own version as well as most Moo Larb comes in Minced Pork. I don't know if I liked it at that much.

Green Curry Chicken
Green Curry Chicken
This was a bad dish. The Coconut Milk was expired giving it a bad after-taste. We told the waiter about it who graciously took the food back and replaced it with another curry of our liking.

Seafood Otak-Otak
Seafood Otak-Otak
This is not like any Otak-Otak I've in Thailand. The Seafood were left in their chunky form and was just stir-fried and baked in curry.

Gaeng Som
Gaeng Som
Unlike the Gaeng Som I've had in Trang or Bangkok. It was more like Steam Fish but spooned over with Gaeng Som Sauce.

Stir-Fried Mixed Vegetables
Stir-Fried Mixed Vegetables
Standard Thai Chinese Dish that was well cooked with enough Wok-Hei. The vegetables were well coated with the Oyster Sauce and the Prawns cooked just nice. I liked the addition of Deep Fried Minced Garlic which gave it a deeper flavor profile.

Dry Chicken Curry
Dry Chicken Curry
The Chicken Pieces was quite tender and the Dry Chicken Curry Sauce was excellent. It actually tasted a little like Indian Butter Chicken.

I have not yet found a really good and authentic Thai Restaurant in KL. Some of Bangkok Wasabe's dishes were close to what I had in BKK like their Goong Ob Woon Sen, Som Tam and Pandan Chicken. However modified dishes such as Moo Larb, Gaeng Som and Seafood Otak-Otak were a little too different for my liking.
