Petite Millie, 1 Utama Shopping Centre

I have a preferance for restaurants that offers something out of the ordinary, regardless of the size of their dining space.

Any business; and I think this applies even more for F & B businesses, should attempt to differentiate themselves from the hundreds of other similar establishments.

Often, its these unconventional items that kept the customers coming back; not to mention to being the crowd puller at the initial stage.

For Petite Millie, I would return for their Poutine; a Canadian dish of comforting fries drowned in brown sauce and with cheese curds. Nothing beats the feel-good buzz in the head when one chews on these fries, soaked with the delicious savoury gravy.

The glamour-tized versions of Poutine can be found here, one of which I had recently, TheBeef Cheek Poutine; a bowl of incredibly tender cheeks and fragrant from the truffle oil. I love thegelatinous texture of the meat and the crispy fries smothered in brown gravy. The dish came added with my favouritebutton and shimeji mushrooms.

6 Hours Braised Beef Cheek, Freshly Ground Pepper and Truffle Oil.RM26.00.

Another specialty here is the Tarte Flambee,a thin pizza from Alsace. Tarte Flambee is to northern Alsace what pizza is to southern Italy. So no worries if youre inclined to refer to this as thin crust pizza for technically, youre not far off the mark.

Avocado and Crab cest une bonne vie! RM19.50.
Fragrant Thyme Lemon Oi! l, Chive Crab Meat Salad with Avocado.

Making this starts with bread dough which was rolled out as thin as a crepe. Where this differs from your common pizza is that the dough is spread with creme fraiche, a sour cream mixed with white cheese called fromage blanc.

As expected of a bread-whore, I loved this, especially the cream base. The thin crust lessen some of the guilt that comes with eating too much carbs but seriously, it was the base that makes it so good!
The pliable dough is crisp at the edges and the cream added moisture while the fresh crabmeat went very well with its bed of sweet, caramelized onions.
The next item you absolutely have to try is the Tartine. Again its one of Petite Mille specialty, though not as complicated to make. Tartine is of French origins and is essentially an open-faced sandwich, preferably using country or whole grain breads. So no, your open face sandwich on top of a slice of Gardenia bread doesnt qualify!

Luv a Duck. RM23.50.
Peppered Duck Breast & Fresh Rocket Leaves, Orange Dill Aioli.

Petite Millie-008

Dill Aioli and a good slice of country bread would make me a happy girl, what more with savory smoked duck!

Petite Millie-009

This came with toasted bread sticks that were originally from the sides of the tart flambee. Much healthier than fries for sure! :)

Frankly, Im still of the opinion that though the food was good, prices are still a little on the high side considering the portions served. For some, the quality of ingredients used and the effort that goes into the preparation justified the cost. For me, the mains were generous enough, but the starters could have been bigger.

Anyhow, the mains didnt wow me as much as the starters and salads.

White Truffle Oil Fish Pie,one of thats their signatures RM36.50.
The Magnificent White Truffle Oil Baked Fish Pie with Shiitake Mushroom.

Basil Oil Tossed Spaghettini, RM28.00.
Seared Rare Tuna Loin a la Plancha, Tomato Beurre Blanc and Zucchini.

Petite Millie-013
I find both palatable, b! ut they wouldnt be my choice of order if I re-visit Petite Mille.
The soup was something else.Thick and satisfyingly hearty, this wasnt coyingly creamy but instead intensified with flavours of potatoes and leek. Thumbs up for this!

Roasted Leek and Potato Veloute. RM12.50.
Chive Ricotta Smoked Fish Tartare and Avocado Oil.

Petite Millie-004

Portabello Sandwich. RM 18.50.
Comte Cheese, Toasted Walnuts & Bell Pepper Relish.

Petite Millie-005
I had the Petite Mille Salad before this and I loved it. The dehydrated vegetables (carrots, corn and another which I cant recall) retained its flavours though it was dehydrated, and these added texture to an otherwise plain salad.

Petite Mille, 1 utama-004

Im just as in love withThe Portobello Salad. The mushrooms were huge, sweet and juicy. The greens were a bit overdressed so it was quite oily but thats just me. Do keep in mind that I have a tendency to avoid anything oily.
Below: Salads starts from RM14.50.

Petite Mille offers a good selection of desserts. I had the Apple Crumble ! back on my first visit in February and the same again last week. I must say the taste was consistent.

with Seasonal Fruit and Berries, Mango Sherbet.

Petite Millie-016
Im not a fan of sorbet but this was good! Unlike the usual face contorting sour ones, this one was sweet with apleasanttinge of tang.

You cant go wrong with the smoothies here. On both visits I ordered smoothies and it was satisfyingly thick with the perfect ratio of fruit juices to ice.

Juicy Dreams (Strawberry, Melon & Lychee). RM14.

Petite Millie-003
I cant remember what exactly this was.

My dining partner then was contented with her tea, but this time round, Andrew complained that the coffee gave him too much of a buzz.!
