Verona Trattoria @ Section 17, Petaling Jaya

Good Italian restaurants in Klang Valley are not necessarily expensive and are out to hurt your wallet. One example would be Verona Trattoria at Section 17 that just opened its doors about 3 weeks ago. Currently it is being managed by a chripy husband and wife team who came to Malaysia from Indonesia on the MM2H (Malaysia My Second Home) program.
But just so you know, most of the food here have had the recipes modified to suit our heavy Malaysian taste bud. So you could say they are not that authentically Italian, which is meant to be simple and generally light in flavor. Well, I cant really blame them for this else there would be an endless complaints of their food being tasteless and bland.

Since they are new, weekly specials are being introduced to test the market. If the specials are popular enough among the customers, then they might consider putting them up as permanents on the menu. Even though the ravioli was highly recommended by the lady boss as the customers absolute favorite, we wanted to play safe and had the other special instead, Grilled Salmon with Lemon Butter Sauce @ RM32.

Because the salmon is of sashimi-grade, you can have it medium rare if you wanted, which I think is a pretty good idea. Ours was skillfully grilled to a tender and flaky finish, just perfect. I especially enjoyed the crispy skin at the bottom where the most of the flavor is concentrated at.

three-mushroom-risotto

Saffron Risotto with Three Mushrooms @ RM34 was another special that we had. The rice was very tasty, creamy with a wonderfully strong saffron aroma while the mushrooms were delightful too. The trickiest part in cooking risotto would be keeping the rices texture al dente and moist, which I felt the chef did well here. In fact, it was comparable to the risotto I had in Milan a couple of years ago.

You will also find a number of pizzas here, mostly traditional based on Neapolitan recipes. This means the pizzas base is thin and crisp made with ingredients like anchovies, mozarella cheese, capers, olives and tomato. We had the Bascaiola Pizza @ RM24 and the main toppings are beef sausages, juicy mushrooms and mozarella cheese. We felt it was pretty good and you certainly cannot compare it with those fast food ones like Dominos or Pizza Hut. They are totally different.

pana-cotta

For desserts there are the classic Italian varieties like Tiramisu, Gelato and Panna Cotta. We tried both the Gelato @ RM5/each scoop (pistachio & chocolate hazelnut flavor) and Vanilla Panna Cotta @ RM11. Both are equally delectable but we liked the Gelato more.
FYI the Gelato here is not homemade but rather bought from a supplier that also supplies to another Italian restau! rant in Pavillion. The lady boss did not tell us exactly which restaurant it is in Pavillion, but one thing for sure is that they are selling it a whole lot cheaper over here.

Maroon seems to be the owners favorite color, you can see it used on the wall and the menu as well.

Parking wouldnt be a problem here. There were plenty of them on a Saturday night and better still, FOC!
