A week before I left Toronto I was invited by Gino and his family for a home-cooked Italian meal!
Italian Sausages with Bell Peppers
Our meal began with some Spicy Italian Sausages that was baked with Bell Peppers. The sausages were purchased from one of their favorite Italian Butchers. I particularly enjoyed the Fennel Flavor of the Sausages
Pickled Vegetables
This was my first time having Italian Pickled Vegetables. It was made with Vineger and Brown Sugar. The Vegetables had a nice sweet and sour taste and the natural flavors of the vegetables combined together after pickling for a day.
Chicken Parmigiana
The Chicken Parimigiana was delicious! The pieces of chicken were really tender and went so well with the homemade Tomato Sauce that was painstakingly drained to concentrate its flavor.
Lasagna
The Lasagna sheets were home-made and had a nice al-dente texture. It was again really good with the home-made Tomato Sauce which heightened the flavo! r of the ground beef.
Lemon Tart
The Lemon Tart was delicious. The lemon custard was very light and had a nice tang coming from the lemon. The crunchy tart crust really complemented the soft custard.
Crme Brulee
The Crme Brulee was store bought and it was quite good. It had a nice creamy flavor but because it was brought home the sugar crust on top started to melt making it watery
Sugar Cookies
These were also store-bought but were good. The buttery flavor was eminent in the cookies and it had a mild crunch.
I really enjoyed the food and more importantly the company. Ginos stories about his childhood in Italy were fascinating and at many times funny. I really hope I could visit them during the Fall to make some Tomato Sauce because mama Ginos Tomato Sauce is definitely a killer!
