In PJ, I would recommend Armada Hotel if youre seeking an option for buka puasa in a hotel. At RM85+, youll be spoiled for choice, and the food is good. Affordable and good food in a comfortable setting with plenty of parking, such a great deal right?
For a start, the grills, satay and the ubiquitouslamb are present of course. This is followed by the long line-up of traditional and Malay favourites as per every Ramadhan buffet.
One of the live stations here that has a perpetual queue is the special seafood station that dishes out stir-fried seafood in a variety of sauces such as kam heong chilli, soy sauce and etc, ala minute. Seafood lovers were seen piling their plate high with the assortment of prawns, squid and fish.
Huge prawns, bamboo clams (my favourite seashells), mussels and squids.
Toss some vegetables on it and send it to the wok!

Fre sh from the wok!
Moving inside, the appetisers station beckons.
BELOW: The Ulam, Kerabu, Nasi Ulam, Briyani, Rendang and the works.
Rojak Pasembur.
Rojak Buah.
Bubur Lambuk.
Roti canai ala minute and Roti Jala with Chicken Curry.
Ulam and sambal, one of the best combination for a salad.
Pickles for every fancy.
Not forgetting the traditional, the nostalgic kampung Lemang and ketupat to pair with the lovely curries.
Squid Salad Kerabu Sotong.
Nasi Ulam very tasty.
The Sup Ekor here was one of the better ones I had this year. I love its deep rooted flavour and herbs nuances that was immersed in every drop.
It was good that I came with an appetite that evening, and was able to eat every hot dish on the buffet row. For the hot dishes, I had my eyes on the duck. Andso were the steamed fish. Satisfying my chinese food craving at a Ramadhan Buffet? Nothing wrong right?! LOL.
Well, thats what buffets are about yes? Being able to tuck into a hundred different food at the same time!
The rest of the hot dishes as below; from prawns to crabs to beef and chicken to cow lungs.
Armada Hotels buffet are one of those which lean more towards the traditional and Malay spread versus international or western. A small respite from the chillis and coconut milk comes in the form of cold station fresh seafood, tempura and sushi.
On the western front, this baked fish dish was particularly outstanding.
The fish was fresh and flaky and the baking process sealed in its flavour from the cheese, spices, pinenuts and beans on top.
!Some people asked me if I got bored eating so many Ramadhan buffets. averaging almost one per night for the last 2-3 weeks.
My reply? Yes, and No.
Each Ramadhan spread offers a slight variation in terms of taste, even if its rendang and chicken curry and bubur lambuk all over again. Some are better than others, thats redundant for me to point out. Likewise for variety. In addition to that, I tend to seek the specials of each buffet, looking out for uncommon recipes or preparation methods or some unique house special.
For Armada Hotel, one was the seafood ala minute station as I have mentioned earlier and another was their desserts.
Desserts are not to be missed as most are delectable. Yes, really.
They are of |the-above-average standard for a buffet. I was happy to note that some are out of the ordinary, and that makes testing them fun.
Bread and Butter Pudding.
Whole cakes of assorted kinds. The spread is generous, and you can actually cut yourself half a cake if you wish!
Star shaped Dodol creative yes?
These were really pretty but a tad too sweet. It would seem that some of their desserts are Middle Eastern inspired, such as the rice dessert below.
And these nutty, sticky finger- licking squaresare delightful if you like nougats.
Delicious and moist butter-based cake.
Fruit Compote.
More fruits in syrup.
I was too lazy to take down each name, but basically there were 3 different cream caramel that evening and we liked 2 of them.
Heres another one that was unexpectedly good. A concoction of pastries, nuts and fruits soaked in cream.
Another Middle Eastern inspired dessert? It looks and taste like one.
I had their cheesecake before during high teaand I liked it.
BELOW: A must for me at buffets the ais-kacang!
Next comes the array of Malay and Nyonya kuih. All are good as they were rich and sweet enough; evidently prepared with sufficient expertise.
2 weeks of Ramadhan has gone by. So where have you buka puasa like I did, with a bunch of friends and with loads of good food?
