Delightful buffet @ Mosaic, Mandarin Oriental KL

Malaysians are a buffet-loving bunch, hence it is common to see all types of buffets be it Japanese, International or Asian in hotels or standalone restaurants. In my opinion, one of the best International buffets in town can be found at Mosaic in Mandarin Oriental KL.

This year, we were quite fortunate and managed to win 4 complimentary dining vouchers for Mosaic from 2 different lucky draws :) Hence when my mum's birthday arrived, we decided to put the vouchers to good use.

Elegant restaurant

Unlike many other buffet restaurants, Mosaic is almost always fully booked. We tried booking on 2 other ocassions (last minute) and couldn't get a table, hence the next time I booked one week in advance. You can book via email or phone and will get a confirmation email reply quite quickly.

We arrived early, so I managed to snap nice, untouched food photos but the restaurant filled up fairly quickly. Service remained attentive throughout the night, our plates were cleared promptly and our glasses were filled with water. And when they saw our kids with us, they brought out cute cutlery sets for them (little things like this makes my kids happy).

Most of the food here is prepared at live cooking stations hence food quality is good. Our favourite were the grill station - the lamb chops were simply delectable and we kept going back for more! For your steaks, you could even re! quest th e doneness that you want. Baby D loved the noodles station and he had two plates of meehoon. The kids also enjoyed the noodle soup with fishballs.

As for the adults, we tried a little bit of everything - Indian, Malay and Japanese, all very good. There wasn't anything that we ate here that wasn't up to par. The salmon sashimi in particular was one of my favorite items of the evening as it was fresh and quite fatty hence was smooth in texture. The Japanese food was very popular with other diners, but I was happy to see that it kept getting replenished so I could get as much fresh sashimi as I liked.

Hurray.. it's time for desserts!

The desserts are showcased in some glass cases, all sitting pretty in rows. I spotted the macarons as soon as I walked into the restaurant. I love the macarons from Mandarin Oriental so this i! s my cha nce to eat as many as I like. In the first round, we tried the orange macaron and we all loved it - nice flavour and texture. Next, we tried the calamansi which was also very nice. The strawberry cheesecake was also memorable - smooth and rich. We tried so many desserts that evening, let's just say we ended our night on a very sweet note.
