Chinese New Year is barely 2 weeks away.. how quickly time flies! Last week, we were invited to Hilton KL to sample their CNY menu as well as "loh sang" (tossing the yee sang). To usher in the Year of the Dragon, award-winning Chef Lam Hock Hin has come up with 4 signature set menus, for 5 persons and above (prices start from RM168.80++ per person). The set menus are available from 2nd January to 6th February 2012. Click here to check out all 4 menus available.

Love the pretty looking plates.
Upon arrival, the tea master greeted us with an impressive tea-pouring ceremony! b>. The tea served to us was a fragrant eight treasures tea, with notes of Chinese herbs.
Watch the action here! Very awesome.

A yee sang feast...
We started off with the obligatory yee sang... not one but three yee sang! That afternoon we sampled the Brilliant Australia lobster lao sang (RM78 per 100g), the Caesar salad with grated parmesan cheese and Norwegian salmon lao sang (RM98 for half portion, RM148 for full portion) and the vegetable, fruits, salmon with extra virgin olive oil lao sang. I love the luxurious lobster yee sang, the lobster meat was very fresh with a nice bouncy texture. Hubby's favorite was the unique caesar salad yee sang -- an ingenious creation by Chef Lam showcasing the perfect marriage of East and West cuisine. At first, we thought the parmesan cheese would be weird with the yee sang but we were wrong.. as tasting it proves that it works well.

A wh! ole baby abalone! :)
The next dish does not look like much, but it was one of the tastiest things we ate that afternoon. It will actually be served to your table as a whole chicken, but the staff will portion it up for you for easier consumption. Free range chicken is used and stewed with Oriental herbs for several hours, resulting in a toothsome dish. I dont usually eat chicken skin, but I gobbled it all up here. :P

Usually, I don't eat prawns during Chinese banquet dinners etc as I am too lazy and don't want to get my hands dirty peeling them (unless Hubby offers to peel them for me of course.. hehe) so it was nice to see that the prawns served to us here has already been peeled for us! Hooray. The prawns were huge and taut, and coated with salted egg yolk... I also like that the prawn was not oily.

We were also presented with this beautiful koi nian gao (no preservatives used) to take home. I love nian gao and I have to say the nian gao here is really good. It was still very soft and fresh when we tried it that same afternoon and not too sweet. We still have some leftover in our fridge, so will probably pan fry it lightly and eat with toasted or fresh coconut. :) These nian gao would make an excellent gift, and is available for purchase in limited quantities from Chynna for RM88++.
