Ten: Round Three. Earlier entries: October 10 & October 13.
This time, it's all about fishy fun from start to finish, wading right in with fleshy slices of salmon carpaccio, complemented by creamy avocados & a garlicky sauce.
Not just any fish ball soup: yellow tail dumplings, with tofu & enoki mushrooms. These are coarse & less bouncy than Chinese fish balls, but they have a meatier, more organic flavor.
Boiled tile fish with grated turnip, veggies & bonito sauce. Simple but satisfying, precisely how the most heartwarming Japanese recipes always are.
Hiramasa kingfish, grilled with Saikyo miso for a gold! en hue & amp; savory sweetness.
Steamed rice soup with slivers of snapper. If we had wintry nights in KL, this would be ideal to warm our bones.
The perfect partner for fish: a French Riesling, Ten's cheapest white wine at RM160. Alas, the reds cost even more.
A more wallet-friendly choice: Sapporo draft beer.
A vast variety of shochu can be found, from sweet potato & rice to black sugar. We opted for wheat & buckwheat.
