Caliterra Tributo

Caliterra Tributo

So these here wines have received sustainability certification; one of the first Chilean wineries to be so awarded. Forget your natural wines or your biodynamic principles for me Environmental Impact is the buzz word of the moment Caliterra makes use of wild horses to control the threat of forest fires, have embarked on a reforestation project and biological corridors. Plus, not ignoring the human angle, local social programs too. But are the wines any good?

First four short videos that detail some of these aspects:

Caliterra Tributo Single Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc, 2001, [Adegga / Snooth] 10.99 Independents including Leamington Wine Company (leamington Spa), Ann et Vin (Newark), Bacchus et Al (Guildford), Eagle Wines (London), Gwin Llyn Wines (North Wales), Partridges of Sloane Street.

A sauvignon from the mineral/grapefruit end of the spectrum whether the complexity is tomato leaves, asparagus with mineral, almost metallic notes is open for debate but what it does have is all the vibrancy you need with an edge of orange and lemon citrus to the aroma and apple-skin freshness to the palate. No oak but a little lees stirring to add further complexity. Love it! and divine with Zesty Prawn Lime and Avocdo Tacos

Caliterra Tributo Single Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, 2007, [Adegga / Snooth] 10.99 Independents including Ann et Vin (Newark), Luvians (St. Andrews, Scotland), Partridges of Sloane Street, Slurp.co.uk

Peppery loveliness classy palate with distinctive fine grained tannins and berry nua! nces is how I encapsulated this stylish wine on twitter; if there were enough characters Id have added elegant softness and, without dropping the English-understatement tone, lovely. To aid in giving the wine enhanced complexity a splash of Carmenere (6%) and Petit Verdot (3%) have been added to the Cabernet.

Caliterra Tributo Edicion Limitada Carmenere Malbec, 2009, [Adegga /Snooth] 14.99 Independents including Cheers Wine Merchants (Swansea), Taylors Fine Wine (Kingston), Hailsham Cellars (Hailsham), Slurp.co.uk

Limited Edition, this being the fourth version released. A small amount of each varietys production was selected to form this 68% Carmenere/32% Malbec mix. Deliciously smooth and highly drinkable, warm, lightly spicy coupled with a delicious sweetness of fruit. Classy.
