KAWAII & OISHI Part 2

Garrett Popcorn Shops, A Chicago Tradition Now in 1 Utama and KLCC Malaysia

Most of us will never fail to get a box of freshly popped popcorn when visiting the cinemas. But I can tell you those were the normal ones. For example Haagen Daz would be the top notch stuff for ice cream. When come to popcorn, I would say Garrett rocks!Garrett Popcorn Shops, started off selling [...]

Celadon

One of the better outlets in the SEA Group family of mall-friendly Thai restaurants, which also includes BSC's Busaba, 1 Utama's Good Evening Bangkok & Mid Valley's Flying Chillies.

Prawns Part I: Tom yam soup _ sourish, spicy & swamped with prawns & mussels.

Prawns Part II: Pomelo salad, with plenty of juicy pulp complemented somewhat unusually by battered prawns, squid, roasted coconut & ground peanuts.

Prawns Part III: Northern Thai prawn curry with pineapples. Delicious, even without the distinctive flavors of the typical Thai green & red curries. Tastes like it could be Malaysian.

Prawn-free interlude: Grilled strip loin on hot plate with northern Thai sauce. Can't complain; the well-marinated beef is the furthest thing from bland &a! mp; chew y.

Prawns Part IV: Sizzling seafood with Thai herbs. Bonus point: Celadon's food displays few apparent signs of MSG.

Prawns Part V: Pineapple fried rice, intriguingly topped with chicken floss (besides the prawns, naturally) for an enjoyable chewiness.

A fair range of wine is available _ not something to take for granted at a Thai eatery.

Le Deux Garcons Ptisserie Bangsar French pastries, macarons and cakes!

This little corner (right opposite of Hong Leong Bank and right beside Jason Dental) used to house a pretty darn good desserts place called Mango Mania. I liked their mango ice cream and fish burgers; reasonable bothin terms of pricing and portioning.
Then not too long ago, it became a two-in-one eating establishment andstarted serving substantial food, (remember Beefy Steaks?) which dished out pretty amazing steaks; based on feedback Ive got from reliable sources.

Sadly, all that wasnt sufficient to sustain Bangsar shoplots rental prices.

Le Deux Garcons Ptisserie took over the lot recently and I dropped in for some French tte--tteone fine afternoon.

Now, its not cool (both literally and figuratively) to sit outside on the Telawi sidewalk in the sweltering heat with heavy traffic fumes and attempt to enjoy your ridiculously expensive pastries. But thats the only option for now unless you popped in for a take-away.

Still, if you are fussy about your desserts (of which I am), and wants to sample excellent French pastries without the need of an air ticket,Le Deux Garcons Ptisserie would have to do for now.

A trip to Le Deux Garcons Ptisserieis worth the trouble; for the desserts here are at the very least; unique and one is assured of premium ingredients.

Le Favori.
Pistachio biscuits pate a choux, raspberry brulee, and pistachio mousseline. RM16.

les deux garcons, bangsar-10

This was incredibly good. Layers of fine sponge coupled with the sourish notes from the raspberry added to the nutty flavour ofpistachio mousseline makes this cake oh-so-delectable!
Every mouthful bought forth delicate flavours on the palate, soft and harmonious blend of balanced sweetness, nuttiness and slight tang from the raspberry brulee.

Le Palladio.
Crispy almond tart, layered with joconde, vanilla ganache, and white truffle mascarpone. RM22.
Yes, you read right. TRUFFLES. TRUFFLES and CHEESE. In a cake form.

les deux garcons, bangsar-8Did you just cringe? Well I kinda did when I read the label. God knows how I ended up ordering this anyways. It must cos I was intrigued.

les deux garcons, bangsar-9

Well curiousity kills the cat they say. While I cant vouch for your palate, I can assure you this may not be for everyone. It was expensive but I couldnt eat more than a mouthful. Unfortunately my dessert-partner didnt help finish it. So wasted.

But in all fairness, the truffle aroma and flavour was verydistinguishableand certainly worth the RM22 price tag. Perhaps Ill just have to get used to the mushroommy taste in sweets rather than just savouries.

Against my better judgement my friend insisted on trying a macaron because she has never tried one before.

les deux garcons, bangsar-11

She chose the Pistachio one (RM5.00) and as expected, found it to be too sweet. So did I.I guess Ill never enjoy macarons. However, I make exceptions for the wasabi ones here @The Hummingbird Cafe, Jalan Telawi!

Will I be back? Of course! Theres so much more to try. But I got to make sure my w! allets a re nice & fat before stepping in again! :P Les Deux Garons Ptisserie,#36, Jalan Telawi, Bangsar Baru,59100 Kuala Lumpur, MalaysiaTel: +603-2284 7833Business Hours: Currently operating from 12:00noon 8:00pmles deux garcons, bangsar-6All pictures shot with the:
