Chocolate Swirl Biscuits

Chocolate swirl biscuits

Make these in the morning. Youll be glad you did.

I was flipping through some of my cookbooks the other day and became mesmerized by a recipe for these biscuits from the book Deep Dark Chocolate. Its filled with decadent recipes using dark chocolate. And with a title like that I would normally go for something all chocolate, super rich and fudgy. And I almost always pick a recipe accompanied by a photo. Im very visual and like to see what Im in for before hand. This one didnt have a photo with it, but it still captivated me.

Swirled chocolate in a biscuit.

Im all in.

These are pretty quick to make. You can have one in your tummy in no time.

Chopping Chocolate

Chopped dark chocolate.

Get it. Get it good.

Flour and butter

Beginnings of the biscuits.

Flour, sugar, baking powder, salt and buttah.

Working dough

Stir in some milk and the dough will start to come together.

Biscuit Dough

Flour your work surface and hands and form the sticky dough into a ball that you can then start to flatten and roll.

Rolling

Roll into a rectangular shape.

buttered

Spread some softened butter on top.

sugared

Sprinkle with a bit of sugar.

Dark Chocolate

And a little chocolate. Just a little. ; )

Rolling up biscuits

And roll it up all jelly roll style for chocolaty swirls.

Cutting biscuit dough

Then cut the roll into equal sections.

Biscuits about to bake

Like so. Maybe smaller chocolate chunks would have made my swirls more distinct.

Thats ok. Im good with over-the-top chocolate.

Chocolate filled biscuits

Umm yeah. Totally fine with that.

Eat them warm from the oven.

Chocolate Swirl Biscuits

Warm with a little melted butter. Yes, please.

Bitten

A yummy way to start the day.

  • In a medium bowl whisk flour, sugar, baking powder and salt until blended.
  • Using fingers or a pastry blender, work butter into the dry ingredients until crumbly.
  • Add milk and stir with a fork until a loose, sticky dough forms.
  • Turn dough out on a floured work surface. Flour your hands and form dough into a ball. Then gently knead it several times (8-10).

  • Position the long side of the dough in front of you.
  • For the filling, spread softened butter over surface of dough. Sprinkle with sugar and cover with chopped chocolate.
  • Roll the dough up in a jelly roll fashion and cut the roll into 10-12 equal sections.
  • Place cut sections on parchment covered baking sheet about 2 inches apart.
  • Add topping if desired. Mix egg yolk and milk together and brush on tops. Then sprinkle with sugar.

Spasso Milano Antipasti Buffet @ Pavilion KL

Before Spasso Milano moved to its current location in Pavilion KL, we used to visit their outlet at Jalan Ampang frequently for their antipasti buffet (see previous review here). The food quality was very good with a reasonable price tag.

We have sampled the porkylicious menu at their current location in Pavilion KL (see review here) and finally, last week we got to try out their antipasti buffet.

Still as good as before..

Pizza margherita

The antipasti buffet, which includes a full-sized main course is priced at RM28++ or RM36++ per person (depending on your choice of main course - the main course is cooked to order). This is available Mondays to Fridays between 12pm-3pm. On weekends, they have a full buffet for RM36++ per person.

San Pellegrino Aranciata Italian soda (RM12.80)

The antipasti buffet is laid out at the counters, directly in front of the open kitchen. It was constantly replenished, just like at the older outlet. The selection, I have been told, changes daily. On the day we were here, there were at least 10 types of antipasti and 2 soups (green pea/asparagus). Cakes are kept separately in a different section.

Most of the antipasti were vegetar! ian, exc ept a couple with some bits of bacon in them. The antipasti was well-prepared and all very flavourful, and I felt that it kept the meal balanced since I was having pork for my mains. I especially liked the grilled zucchini, oven baked eggplant and baked pumpkin - I kept going back for more.

I like that I can kee! p going back for more ;)

Green pea soup - smooth

The main selections will probably change once a month. I ordered the pork valdostana which I had during my last visit here. The portion was exactly the same as you would get if you ordered a la carte and the price on the a la carte menu is RM38++ for this. Do the maths... the antipasti buffet is already well-worth the price! The pork escalope was very tender (topped with baked ham and Fontina cheese) and the fusilli aglio e olio was very nicely prepared.

Watching the pork being prepared in the open kitchen!

The pizza took a little longer to arrive since it was cooked to order in the wood-fire oven so you can always help yourself to the antipasti buffet first while waiting. The pizza margherita was very good, thin crust with slightly charred edges.

For desserts, we tried several cakes and some of the ice-cream/gelato. The cakes were a little too dry for my liking but we tried an apple crumble which was very good. I also like the gelato - the cassata, zabaione and orange Cointreau flavours were good.

Butterfly in our garden in the evening ;)

Verdict: The antipasti buffet is still as good as we remembered it. An added bonus is that pork is now served as part of their antipasti buffet.

First Experience Cycling in Singapore - PCN

Sien Sin took me here for a Singapore Bak Kut Teh @ Ng Ah Sio, Rangoon Road. I always like plain & clear soup and was looking for this Bak Kut Teh for a change. The BKT soup was not as clear as I wanted but it was good though.

My in laws were worried after leaving me here alone at East Coast with a small bicycle. I told not to worry about me and I love to get lost in this kind of situation...hehehe. The time was about 10.15am.Basically I did this route as circled "RED"Signage was good but at time I got lost but interesting to be lost....
East Coast - Siglap.
Bedok Reservior Park.Neighbourhood of Tampines, here I see a big number of Malay community, they are such a friendly people and always willing to help me in my directions. There are so many types of people in this island not sure they speak the same lingo and after several times I prefer to talk to those I know better.
Good directional signs at relevant turns.PCN stands for "Park Connector Network" - I love it.Many of thesepit-stopsfor you to rest & refresh yourself.A fishing pond at Pasir Ris, my friend Eu Jin's once favourite place to unwind.A beautiful at Pasir Ris.PCN track along the MRT line and many along the main drain or streams could be a boring ride but very safe ride indeed.Bravo to all cyclists you are at home.Singapore is such a clean and systematic country, everywhere almost look alike. At the beach of Pasir Ris quiet and relaxing.
A place with a familiar name called Changi, I passed by the Military base and many more restricted places of security.Alone and hardly anyone riding on a weekday at this part of Singapore....wahlao eh..At last something to break the monony, I see breeze and swaying coconut trees....that was refreshing. My longest 1.5 hours with my solo recovery of this puncture. There were 5 cyclists passed by me and none bother to open their mouth to check what was wrong.....my goodness what happen to these city folks.
Along the Changi Airport there were 2 runways as far as I am concerned, one for the planes and the other one for me to keep on spinning. Both were parallel from one and another and also pretty long.
Then came this scenery shady and quiet track, in fa! ct the a ir was cool that chilled into my bones. Along thisstretchI saw Changi Golf Club how I wish I can play in the golf course instead of being alone pedalling like crazy. At last I was happy and relieved to see a sign that shows "East Coast" and that means I have reached my final point for the day.East Coast cycling track is pretty long I cycled till the end of it, had a cool beer and proceeded to Katong to stop for a cab back to the hotel. $8.50 from Katong to Balestier Road. What a memorable ride and I had never thought of cycling in Singapore and in this long expedition. It was about 5.30pm when I finished the ride here. Everything was wonderful except for thepuncturedtyre.
