Im in Kuching again (yes, again because this is my 3rd trip to the Cat City!) and this time for the Rainforest World Music Festival, with gratitude to Heineken Malaysia.

Today its exploring and EATING day, after yesterdays Rainforest World Music Festivalstage performance.

I booked the hotel shuttle the night before for departure at 9.00am. The hotel shuttle dropped us off at Harbour View where a local blogger Jun Fook has kindly offered to be our local guide for the day.

This is theFried Foochow Noodles (RM5.00) that I just recently found about from someone who mentioned it on Facebook. Apparently it is supposed to be cooked with alcohol; of which was disappointingly absent as far as Im concerned. Honestly, it tasted similar to the Penang Hokkien Char. For RM5, I didnt think I would recommend this at all.

Of all the stalls in Soon Fatt Coffee Shop, this stall was the most popular and almost every table ordered something from its menu.

Since the Fried FooChow Noodles was way below expectations, I added an order of Chow Chai Hoon Ngan (RM6.00). This is another dish which all Foochows swear by. Zao cai/chow chai is mustard vegetable (the cai) preserved with red wine (zao), and hoon ngan is thick rice vermicelli noodles. This is savoury and sour due to its pork based broth and the sourness is attributed to the preserved mustard vegetable. Obviously the combi isnt exactly easy to strike a balance. I gave this more brownie points than the previous Fried Foochow Noodles as this was tastier.

It came with some pork pieces and prawns, both of which wasnt really fresh. The pork bits were actually a bit tough.

Ok, breakfast wasnt exactly a stellar start but it was alright as we have many more items to hunt for the day! :)

Next, Kolo Mee and Sarawak Laksa! :dd
