Angry Birds Cookies

My students play this game all day. It is the only thing they ever talk about. Ever. Every single picture they draw has an angry bird hidden in it.

When this game first came out I would play it all the time. Now that they cannot connect with the outside world because of this game, I have had enough of it.

For some reason they have their own cookie recipe. I guess it goes with the theme of spicy = angry and that their are a lot of eggs in it. But a warning, it is really spicy.

Angry Birds Cookies

What you need:
2 sticks butter, at room temperature
1 1/2 cups sugar
6 egg yolks
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon plus 1 teaspoon
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon lemon extract
2 1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cream of tartar
pinch of salt
1/4 cup plus 1 teaspoon cocoa powder
1/4 cup confectioner's sugar
1 teaspoon chili powder

What you do:
Preheat the oven to 350 F and line two cookie sheets with parchment paper. In a stand mixer with a paddle attachment, cream together the butter and sugar. In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg yolks, 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon, the vanilla and the lemon extract. Add the yolk mixture into the butter mixture with the mixer still running. In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, cream of tartar, salt and 1/4 cup cocoa powder. Slowly add the dry ingredients into the wet. Form 1 tablespoon size balls of dough and line them on the cookie sheet. Bake for 13 minutes.

While the cookies are baking, combine 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, 1 teaspoon ! cocoa po wder, the confectioner's sugar and the chili powder. Sprinkle on top of cookies while they are still hot out of the oven.
