I cooked: Homemade Spiced Lamb Burger

We've done the beef and pork burgers, so for our next burger evening, we experimented with lamb. I scoured the internet fora recipe for the lamb patty but found that I was missing an ingredient (or two) for almost every recipe, so I decided to just mix and match and come up with my own version of Spiced Lamb Burgers.

As I mixed the ingredients for the patty, our kitchen was reminiscent of an Indian curry house. The lamb patty turned out juicy and moist and smelled wonderful. It didn't taste like a regular burger you would find at a burger joint due to the spices used; different but definitely very tasty. Now I'm really torn as to which burger I like best. Lamb, pork or beef?

Juicy and delicious

Spiced lamb burger
Preparation time: 5-10 minutes
Cooking time: 10 minutes
Makes 4

Ingredients
350g lamb or mutton mince
1 clove of garlic, diced
1/2 onion, diced
2 tbsp Linghams chilli sauce with ginger
1 tsp coriander seed, crushed
1 tsp cumin seed, crushed
1 1/2 tsp garam massala
1/2 tsp turmeric
1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
Salt and pepper to taste

Burger toppings
4 slices of chee! se
1 tomato, sliced thinly
Lettuce
1 shallot, sliced thinly

1. Crush the coriander seeds and cumin seeds in a mortar to a fine consistency.

2. Mix the lamb mince, coriander seeds, cumin seeds, garlic, onion, garam massala, turmeric, salt, pepper and Linghams chilli sauce in a mixing bowl. The mixture will be quite dry but the chilli sauce will keep the meat together. Form 4 patties, place on a plate and cover in cling film. Leave in refridgerator to firm up and remove when required.

3. Preheat the olive oil in a non-stick frying pan. Cook the burgers on a medium low heat for 6-7 minutes or until cooked through.Meanwhile, in a separate pan, halve your burger buns, spread with some butter and lightly toast them for 30 seconds.

4. Arrange the patty on a bun, topped with a slice of cheese, lettuce, sliced tomatoes and shallots.

Enjoy with a cold beer!

Yet another awesome burger! Homemade burgers are the best!
